Kohala District
Kohala Coast - The Kohala Coast is home to the most luxurious resorts in the state of Hawaii. The beaches are fabulous and because of the barren lava landscape, the resorts are few and far between. These resorts are a vacation destination in themselves. To preserve the many ancient Hawaiian artifacts on the coast, the resorts were built around the sites to ensure that the Hawaiian history lives on.
Waimea - This is upcountry Hawaii at its best. Waimea is home to Hawaii's largest working ranch, Parker Ranch. The landscape is breathtaking with rolling hills enshrouded with mist. The elevation is 2,200 ft., however, the ocean is only eight miles away. For those who love to stargaze, Waimea is home to the Keck Telescope which is the world's largest and most powerful telescope.
