Hamakua Coast
The emerald coastline is on the northeast side of the island and runs 52 miles in length from Hilo to Honokaa. This is where the magnificent Waipio Valley is located.
The lush valley floor is covered with taro patches, wild horses and isolated homes that can be reached only by foot or 4x4 vehicles. You can hike back into the jungle to waterfalls or hang-out on the black sand beaches. On a clear day you can see Maui in the distance.
