The Boat Company
For a quarter century, The Boat Company has been running trips through Southeast Alaska. In that time it has been recognized by a number of national and international publications including Town & Country, National Geographic Traveler, Wooden Boat, Travel & Leisure, Yachting and Outdoor Adventure Travel.
The Boat Company's trips last six to nine days aboard one of two, mid-sized vessels (the smallest at 145 ft., carries 20 passengers, the largest at 157 ft., carries 24). The Boat Company differs from other operators in that they offer a wide range of off-boat activities, i.e., nature walks/hikes, fishing (stream troll and bottom), canoeing, kayaking, wildlife viewing and more. They also, clean, freeze and pack all passengers' fish.
Our largest remaining wilderness is Alaska. You can be there. You can experience the crisp thrill of setting foot where few have ever trod before. On any given day, you might observe several different species of whales, relax with your companions on deck as you glide through the narrow passages of towering thousand-foot high fjords, watch black and brown bears come down to the shore to feed. The Boat Company cruises no more than four to six hours a day (depending on whale watching) before dropping anchor in some secluded cove or scenic area to pursue other activities.
Watch large herds of stellar sea lions basking on the warm rocks of the coastline. An astonishing array of gulls and migratory water fowl will fill the skies above you. Fish the plentiful waters for halibut, dolly varden or cutthroat trout, king, coho, or pink salmon. At the end of the day feast on a finely prepared gourmet meal before retiring to the unsurpassed comfort of a private stateroom aboard your own yacht. You can do as much or as little as you care to, but there is no question that you will have had the experience of a lifetime.
To accommodate the varied interests of each passenger and to provide excellent service; the minimum ratio of one crewmember to two guests is provided. Most of the crew, aside from boat handling skills, have other expertise as well, i.e., trained naturalists, licensed fishing guides, etc.
The boats are more than comfortable, but stop short of being "mega yacht" luxurious. More specifically, they track the idiosyncrasies of the founder who loved Southeast's wilderness areas, but preferred to get there on a vessel that would not look out of place when sharing an anchorage in some secluded cove with a local commercial fishing boat. However, he also wanted spacious surroundings (enough room for privacy), gourmet quality meals, good wine, good service, and lots of hot water. In short, a wilderness experience in comfort.
The Boat Company caters to everyone: individuals, couples, and families traveling together. There is a maximum of 24 passengers allowed on any one vessel for fear of losing the sense of intimacy and a shared experience that so many passengers appreciate and enjoy.
The Boat Company enjoys an astounding 80 percent repeat client and referral business, something that is quite unheard of in the travel industry!
