Tahiti on a Budget
It goes without saying that people from all over the world dream of one day traveling to Tahiti. Well, for those who love the Polynesian culture it certainly makes sense to venture off to French Polynesia, as this is where the Polynesian culture first began.
As a travel professional, I can conclude that the main reason more people aren't flocking to this exotic locale is that most believe they don't have the proper funds to make their dream a reality.
Having just returned from Tahiti, I can say that the prices are higher now than ever before, and we can only blame the rapidly declining dollar. But alas, there is a ray of hope for those who still want to travel to this far off destination, and cruising is one of the answers.
I just got off the fabulous Tahitian Princess, and can attest that this particular ship, and cruise, is one of the best I have ever been on. The itinerary was what intrigued me as it included stops in all three touristic island chains in French Polynesia - Society Isles, The Tuamotus and the Marquesas Islands. (Please see itinerary below)
Being a Tiare specialist (Tahiti specialist) and having spent over two months in French Polynesia, I am quite aware of the inter-island airfare costs and the logistics involved in traversing from island to island. Last year I spent just shy of three weeks doing an extensive land based tour and know the amount of time and traveling involved to get from island to island. When I saw the price for the cruise I was amazed at how inexpensive it was. I did not hesitate in the least to reserve my cabin, and at FULL price, no agent discounts!
After all, considering the cruise cost less than $200 p/day per person (oh, and this is for a balcony cabin) which includes all meals, all entertainment, all transportation, all taxes and gratuities; you now can understand why cruising to French Polynesia is such a terrific value. And one of the best aspects to me was the fact that I would only be unpacking ONCE and would only fly in and out of Papeete ONCE!!!
For those who don't want to lazily float through the sea from island to island, there are always pensions or moderate resorts that are a good value. And without a doubt this is the best way to see the islands and become immersed in the culture; when a ship is in port the flavor of the small towns do change. Because of our special agreements, with most properties in the islands, our clients are always pleasantly surprised upon arrival at their resort. Plus since we have such an extensive knowledge of the islands we know where to book activities, where to go to get the special "gifts" and most importantly how to save on the cost of food.
It really helps to be a savvy traveler, as we all want the best value - nobody wants to give their hard earned cash away without getting something back in return. I highly encourage you to seek out our help in planning your visit to the exotic locale of French Polynesia - whether it be by land or sea, I promise you we can save you time and money and provide you with the ultimate Incredible Journey!
And who could say NO to such an authentic South Seas itinerary as the one I just sailed on?
People from all walks of life, from first time cruisers to those who have sailed over 550 days, were sailing the waters of the South Pacific, and each and every one of us had the time of our life.
Au revoir,
Joyce Craddock
