Welcome to Maui

If you are dreaming of a tropical getaway where you can relax in the warm sun, play in the sand, frolic in the sparkling Pacific Ocean and let your cares melt away, Maui should be at the top of your list of island choices. Blessed with many wonderful white sand beaches, Maui basks in warm blue waters, incredible sunsets, and has an endless array of water activities.

Did you know that Maui has almost 33 miles of nearly continuous beaches on the south and west shores? Honolua Bay and DT Fleming Beach are well known for world class surfing in the winter and snorkeling in the summer. Kapalua Beach has been called the perfect Hawaiian beach, it is a sheltered bay and offers year round swimming and snorkeling. Napili Bay is calm during the summer and a great place for children to play in the gentle waves – or for teens, skim boarding is popular at this crescent shaped beach. One of the island’s best beaches is spectacular Kaanapali Beach. If you want to swim with sea turtles you might try snorkeling at famous Black Rock near the Sheraton hotel located on Kaanapali Beach.

The south side boasts its own popular beaches. If you want a beach with calm water then hit the beaches on the south shore during the winter months. If you want surf, then head over to the south side during the summer months. In Kihei you will find Kamaole I, II, and III Beaches where the locals like to hang out, swim, bodysurf, and fish. Wailea has its share of fabulous beaches as well. Ulua is the most popular for snorkeling during the winter months when the water is calm. Makena Beach is 3,300 feet long and more than 100 feet wide and the most popular undeveloped beach on the island, a true gem not to be missed. Located next door is Makena Cove, a hidden bay which is a popular and secluded spot for weddings.

If windsurfing is your thing, then make time for Hookipa Beach Park, located on the east shore, just past the charming town of Paia. This is one of the most famous windsurfing sites in the world but definitely not for beginners. Also along the east shore are the endless hidden black sand beaches you will find when you take the road to Hana. The most well known is Waianapanapa State Park. Other hidden gems can be found by talking to me, through travel guides, or by asking the locals. Hamoa Beach is the only white sand beach on this side of the island and is surrounded by a gorgeous tropical rainforest – an idyllic tropical setting.

The warm turquoise waters off Maui are teeming with multi-hued fish, spectacular coral reefs, and amazing dive sites – a myriad of water sports to suit everyone's desires.

If you ask the locals where the best beaches are you will get a multitude of answers. You see, each and every beach in Maui is perfect in its own way. You will have to decide next time you visit Magical Maui which beach is your favorite.
