Summertime Tours in Denali National Park

Last time I visited Denali National Park I went on an escorted bus tour arranged by Holland America Cruise Lines. The tour went about 90 miles into the park, stopping short of Kantishna and Wonder Lake.

The tour was fantastic, we saw lots of wildlife, and learned so much from the experienced guides plus we had a perfectly clear day and were able to see Mt. McKinley from the base on up!

Alaska proves to be one of the must see places in the world and this is whether you do a cruise, land only experience, or combination.

We have always advised clients to stay a few nights in the park at the Kantishna Roadhouse so that they can really experience the park. Sadly most visitors to the “Last Frontier” will stay outside the park, in the lodges owned by one of the major cruise lines. And with the mega cruise lines offering stupendous savings this can make or break a visit to Alaska.

But alas there is now another way to actually visit Kantishna without an overnight stay, and that is by booking the 12 Hour Kantishna Experience Tour with the National Park Service (Doyon/Aramark serves as the concessionaire).

You will be picked up from most hotels outside of the park; rates are $165 p/adult and $77.50 for children under age 14.

There are a few other tours offered, but this would be a great opportunity for those visiting Alaska in 2010 as no day tour has ever traveled this deep into the park.
