Dear Endora,

I always get confused with Hawaii's time zone, HST, and how far it is from the continental United States.

Chris - Washington D.C.

Dear Chris,

Because Hawaii is on its own time zone HST it can be confusing on what time it is in paradise.

The 50th state of the United States of America (admitted to the Union in 1959) is located 2,160 miles off the coast of California, which just so happens to be the closest neighbor state. Hawaii is three hours behind Pacific Standard Time (PST) and six hours behind Eastern Standard Time in the Spring and Summer. Since Hawaii does not participate in daylight savings time, Hawaii is two hours behind PST and five hours behind EST in the Fall and Winter. I find the confusion is because of the change in time during the seasons, but this should help keep you straight.

Dear Endora,

I have been searching fares online and I am completely frustrated because the prices seem to fluctuate constantly. Is this normal or is this a scam by the online agencies?

Samantha - Seattle

Dear Samantha,

Welcome to the world of published air - which changes almost as often as the stock market. Most often if you can purchase bulk or wholesale air, through a travel agent, these fares can be held from one to six days without any payment, and the key is that the price will not fluctuate. If bulk or wholesale air is considerably more expensive, or the flight schedule is not as optimal, then published air is your only option. But beware that the price can and WILL fluctuate until your ticket is paid in full.

Best of luck

Endora,

Now that most of the airlines are allowing just one check in bag how do you pack for a cruise where you have to dress to the nines, and have casual attire to go trekking around in?

Sophia - Las Vegas

Dear Sophia,

Well my dear all is not lost. You can check more than one bag, but it will cost anywhere from $25 - $75. Some airlines allow for your free bag to be 75 pounds, but most carriers allow for a 50 pound bag without incurring any additional costs. Remember the cruise lines do have laundry service as well as self serve laundry facilities. If you stick to a similar color scheme you can interchange many outfits to create a pretty full wardrobe, when you do this you can get by with just a few pairs of shoes (my downfall to be sure). And then you can always bring less but take home more...

Good luck packing,
