Belize, Mysterious Land of Enchantment

Belize..... just the name conjures up ideas of adventure, history and culture. You can explore and experience the best of nature with diving, fishing, snorkeling and hiking in this magnificent country. This is a small country but it has so much to offer its visitors. As the home of the largest barrier reef in the western hemisphere (the second largest in the world) you will find the most amazing snorkeling and scuba diving experiences ever.

And when you are done with your adventuring you can turn your attention to the mighty Maya cities like Caracol which dot the landscape with small agricultural communities farming the land between. At their peak, one to two million Mayans lived within the borders of what we know as present day Belize. You can ponder the idea that no one knows for sure what caused the disappearance of the Mysterious Maya. Was it war, famine, natural disasters or a simple loss of faith? Spend a day here exploring ruins and come away with a profound respect for a civilization that disappeared thousands of years ago.

Description of Services:

duPlooy's Jungle Lodge

duPlooy's is a small jungle lodge, where visitors can feel relaxed in friendly surroundings. There are plenty of activities right on the premises - swimming in the pristine waters of the Macal River, relaxing on a beautiful sandy beach, canoeing, horseback riding or visiting the adjacent Belize Botanic Gardens. Bird watching can be done in a civilized fashion right from duPlooy's deck with its 200 feet canopied walkway; from the bird blind in Belize Botanic Gardens; walking leisurely about the property; on guided hikes or night walks. Off the property, you can choose from one of the many tours we offer.

Caracol Mayan Ruin Tour

Caracol is the best ruin this side of the border. It has giant temples to climb and from which to exclaim at the view of miles of protected Chiquibul forest. As a bonus you can often see real live archaeologists at work here. There has been reconstruction on the main temple to show you what the temple was thought to look like during the time of the Maya. You can add a swim in the Rio On Pools, of the Mountain Pine Ridge, to this trip. We've cut off some drive time for this trip by having the driver meet you across the river from duPlooy's. Meet at the office and someone will canoe you over, unless it is raining, in which case your driver will pick you up. (Entrance Fees Not Included)

Aktun Tunichil Muknal

If you wanted to do the most amazing thing Belize has to offer, it is Aktun Tunichil Muknal. Amazing Mayan skeletal remains, amazing pottery, amazing cave. Don't think so much amazingness comes easy. You will drive on a terrible road, hike about 45 minutes in to the cave, swim into the cave, wade through the cave, climb around the cave, explore and then go through it all again in the opposite order. Warning: This is not a cave for young children, those not physically fit, with knee, hip or ankle problems or with problems with claustrophobia and or heights.
