The crescent-shaped bay has warm golden sand. From one end of the beach to the other is approximately a quarter mile (depending on the tides). On the end of each point there are tide pools to explore.

The bay is protected by several reefs. The surf is usually gentle: perfect for snorkeling over the reefs, swimming in the clear water, or body surfing toward the center of the bay where the waves break on the reef. Just beyond the bay, whales and dolphins play in the surf during their visits to Maui.
